A calendar full of recurring work
Tax deposits, returns and wage statements recur on defined schedules; the work keeps showing up whether the process is tidy or not.
ACCOUNT RESEARCH FOR PAYROLL AND HR OPERATIONS SOFTWARE SELLERS
Alma Hunter delivers reviewed account and buyer-fit research for payroll and HR software sellers—not software, subscriptions, CRM, or guaranteed leads.
The accounts. The business case. The next move.
U.S.-focused illustration; payroll and HR duties vary by jurisdiction, employer and worker circumstances. Validate applicable requirements and buyer-specific costs; no compliance result is promised.
THE PAIN / NOT ANOTHER GENERIC LIST
Before selling time becomes sunk time, test the obstacles.
Tax deposits, returns and wage statements recur on defined schedules; the work keeps showing up whether the process is tidy or not.
Payroll, wage, hours and deduction records must be accurate and retained; tracing inputs across tools can mean more manual handling.
Different pay frequencies, workforce setups and integrations make the right-fit conversation more specific than 'we need payroll software'.
WHAT ALMA HUNTER DELIVERS
Identify candidate tasks to time—data changes, approvals, exception handling and reconciliations—before anyone claims hours saved.
Use payroll stack, time capture, integrations, pay frequency and workforce complexity to qualify solution fit.
Compare measured annual time reclaimed at the buyer's loaded labor cost with first-year software and implementation costs.
Illustrative qualification, not a researched account. Unknowns stay unknown.
THE KPIs / TRACK, DO NOT PROMISE
Metrics to monitor—not guaranteed lifts, meetings or sales.
Learning target: establish baseline minutes per payroll cycle across agreed admin tasks; compare on the same scope after adoption.
Learning target: record correction and rework cases per cycle and their causes; define what counts before comparing.
Learning target: count reviewed accounts with verified buyer role, current stack, workflow need and integration constraints.
THE BUYER’S RETURN FROM YOUR SOLUTION
This models your buyer’s return from your solution—not your revenue from buying leads.
YOUR BUYER’S ROI / FICTIONAL INPUTS
YEAR ONE / USD / MODEL, NOT A FORECAST
Below year-one break-even. Revisit the case—not the arithmetic.
Illustrative, editable assumptions—not validated results, guarantees or Alma service pricing.
Fictional USD illustration, not a market benchmark or promised result: 500 hours/year × $40 per loaded hour × 50% realized share = $10,000 gross benefit; $6,000 upfront + $4,000 ongoing = $10,000 first-year cost, so illustrative net is $0 and ROI is 0%. Count only measured hours genuinely freed for productive work; do not assume layoffs, penalty avoidance, or reduced headcount. Realized share is the portion of estimated hours reclaimed, not the probability a project succeeds. Include implementation and other first-year costs once; avoid double-counting labor savings.
Gross benefit = potential units × economic unit value × realized share.
Full year-one cost = full upfront deployment + annual operating cost. Net = benefit − full cost. Year-one ROI = net ÷ full cost × 100. Each cost is subtracted once.
Simple upfront payback = upfront cost ÷ (annual benefit − annual operating cost) × 12 months, only if annual net benefit is positive. It assumes steady annual realization, not a discounted cash-flow forecast. Year-one break-even units = full year-one cost ÷ realized unit value.
Baseline and compare like-for-like payroll cycles: time defined tasks such as data updates, approvals, exception resolution and reconciliations; record staff touch-time, exceptions and rework. IRS guidance establishes recurring deposits, tax reporting and wage statements; DOL describes required payroll/time records. Neither source quantifies software time savings, so validate hours and loaded labor cost with the buyer's own records.
